PATENT: ALL-OPTICAL LOGIC GATES FOR OPTICAL COMPUTING
DOWNLOAD PDF (CAN)
DOWNLOAD PDF (USA)
This invention comprises configurations of all-optical NAND, NOT, AND and OR logic gates by using optical fibers and interacting light intensities to realize the switching mechanism. Multiple gate connections are proposed with the universal NAND gate to create any of the basic logic gates.
The switching mechanism operates in the frequency domain of the optical signals and is based on the principles of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in an optical fiber. Through the optimization of the light signals in this scattering process, a number of different gates have been simulated for different configurations. The proposed gates are free from polarization instabilities and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) which plague current fiber non-linearity-based techniques of optical gate construction.
Patent: OPTICAL PHASE-MODULATOR AND NETWORK FOR SIGNAL TRANSMISSION
DOWNLOAD PDF (USA)
An improved method of phase-modulation, based on the principles of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS), and an optical phase network employing the phase-modulator has been developed. The network is used for the transmission of optical signals (data transmission).
