How Our Systems Work
Modern computing is built on electronic logic gates—components that perform binary operations, translating digital information into “0s” and “1s.” Gates such as AND, OR, NOT, and NAND form the basis of every microprocessor and electronic circuit.
Optii is reimagining this foundation through photonics.
Rather than relying on traditional electronics, our systems use optical fibers to construct all-optical logic gates. By leveraging the physics of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS)—a nonlinear optical effect—we modulate light intensities to achieve logic operations in the optical domain.
These gates are then interconnected to form all-optical circuits, capable of performing complex computations while significantly reducing vulnerability to electromagnetic interference. This photonic approach enhances both operational security and environmental resilience, particularly in defense settings where reliability and EM immunity are critical.

Built for the Battlefield and Beyond
Optii Corp is an Ottawa-based high-tech startup specializing in photonic technologies for military applications. Our mission is to redefine how secure computing and electromagnetic warfare (EW) detection are approached in today’s threat landscape.
Our all-optical platforms are being engineered for two core capabilities:
1. Electronic Warfare Detection & Characterization
Optii is developing fiber-optic-based RF detection and characterization systems that operate in the X-band (8–14 GHz)—a frequency range crucial to airborne radars, missile guidance, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and spaceborne imaging radars used in military intelligence. These systems are immune to electromagnetic interference and jamming, offering a secure, reliable means of EW signal identification and analysis in electronically contested environments.
2. Electromagnetic-Resilient Computing
Current electronic computing systems are highly vulnerable to EM interference and EMP attacks, which can lead to catastrophic system failures. Optii’s approach replaces traditional electronic logic with all-optical logic gates—built using fiber-optic technologies and high-energy light manipulation techniques like stimulated Brillouin scattering. Our hybrid systems drastically reduce the exposure to EM vulnerabilities, ensuring secure, uninterrupted data transmission and computation, even in the presence of high-powered electronic attacks or signal disruptions.
